Privacy & Cookie Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-10
This policy explains what personal data SpeedWave (speedwave.app) processes, why, and what your rights are, under Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and Italian data protection law. In short: SpeedWave has no accounts, your texts stay in your browser, analytics run only if you accept them, and we only keep your email if you explicitly ask to join the SpeedWave Pro waitlist.
1. Data controller
The data controller is Fabio Di Sotto, owner of the sole proprietorship Di Sotto Fabio (OmenLabs is a trademark of the business), VAT IT03252930601, REA FR-320774, Via Barbanera 21/A, 03030 Santopadre (FR), Italy.
For any request about your data write to [email protected].
2. Texts and settings: stored only in your browser
The text you paste is shown word by word directly in your browser: it is not sent to our server and it is not saved, except when you start the AI comprehension check (section 3). SpeedWave stores a few items in your browser's local storage so the app remembers your choices. They never leave your device and are not cookies:
speedwave-settings: reading preferences (font size, speed, colour, reader size, chunk size, toggles);cookie-consent: whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies;speedwave-quiz-history: your last 20 comprehension check results (date, WPM, score);speedwave-pro-variant,speedwave-pro-beta,speedwave-pro-waitlisted: technical flags for the SpeedWave Pro test (section 5).
You can delete them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
3. AI comprehension check
When you choose to take a comprehension check, the text you just read (up to 60,000 characters) is sent to our server and forwarded to OpenRouter, which routes it to the provider of the selected AI model (currently a Google Gemini model) to generate the questions. We do not store the text, the questions or your answers on our servers, and we do not send any identifier along with the text. OpenRouter and the model provider process the text under their own terms and may do so outside the European Union, relying on the safeguards provided for by the GDPR (such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses).
The legal basis is the provision of the feature you request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). The check is optional: if your text contains personal or confidential information, simply don't use it. Your IP address is used only in memory to rate-limit requests and is never written to disk.
4. Cookies and analytics
SpeedWave sets no cookies of its own. With your consent only, we load Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd.) to understand how the app is used: page views and reading events such as reading speed, word count and position in the text, with IP anonymisation enabled. The content of your texts is never sent to Google Analytics.
Until you click Accept in the cookie banner, no Google script is loaded and nothing is sent. If you accept, Google Analytics sets the _ga and _ga_* cookies, which last up to 2 years. Google may process the data in the United States under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; see Google's privacy policy.
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can change your choice at any time from Cookie settings in the footer of the app: if you withdraw consent, analytics stop immediately.
5. SpeedWave Pro test and waitlist
We are testing interest in a paid SpeedWave Pro plan. When you interact with it, the app records anonymous, aggregated counters: the type of event (e.g. the offer was viewed or a button was clicked), the date, which version of the offer was shown, where it was opened from and the features you voted for. These counters contain no IP address, cookie, account or other identifier. If you have accepted analytics cookies, the same events are also sent to Google Analytics.
If you choose to join the waitlist, we store your email address, the sign-up date, the offer version and the features you selected. We do this only if you tick the consent box, and we use your email only to send you one email when SpeedWave Pro launches, with the early-access discount. We don't use it for anything else, we don't share it and we don't sell it. Your email is deleted after the launch email is sent, or earlier if you ask us at [email protected]. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
6. Hosting and technical logs
SpeedWave runs on a server managed by the data controller. As with any website, the hosting infrastructure receives technical data needed to deliver the pages (such as IP address, requested URL, date and browser type) and may keep it in short-lived technical logs for security and troubleshooting, based on our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
7. Who receives the data
- OpenRouter and the selected AI model provider, only for the comprehension check you start;
- Google, only for analytics and only if you accept cookies;
- nobody else: the waitlist emails are not shared with third parties.
8. How long we keep it
- Texts sent for the comprehension check: not stored, discarded once the questions are generated;
- Local storage items: on your device until you clear them;
- Google Analytics cookies: up to 2 years, or until you withdraw consent or delete them;
- Anonymous Pro counters: for the duration of the test (they cannot be linked to you);
- Waitlist email: until the SpeedWave Pro launch email is sent, or until you ask us to delete it.
9. Your rights
You have the right to access your data, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its processing, receive it in a portable format and withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal. To exercise them write to [email protected]. Note that, because the Pro counters are anonymous, we can only find data linked to you through the email address you gave us.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (www.garanteprivacy.it), or with the supervisory authority of the EU country where you live or work.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when SpeedWave changes. The date at the top shows the latest revision; significant changes will be highlighted in the app.
